If you are using a Mac computer, chances are, you probably aren’t taking advantage of the 64bit kernel that is built in. To check if you are using 32bit or 64bit;

Click on the Apple logo

Click on “More Info…”

When the System Profiler window opens, on the left side, click on “System”

On the right side there should be an area that says “64-bit Kernel and Extensions”

If it says “no,” you are running 32bit. It’s easy enough to fix.

Option A
Restart the computer, when it is booting up, hold down the 6 and the 4 keys on your keyboard. To verify is booted into 64bit, do the same steps as above.

Option B
This required some Terminal work as well as a restart. Inside Terminal, type
sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture x86_64
This will require you to restart before you can start using the 64bit kernel. To verify is booted into 64bit, do the same steps as above. In case you want to go back to 32bit, inside Terminal again, you would type
sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture i386
Once again, a restart is required.

The up side is that it gives you, give or take, a 30% increase in just about everything your computer does. But be careful. Some software and drivers aren’t ready for 64bit just yet.

In other words it disables your CSS for for a 24 hour period in order to promote web standards.

I forgot that yesterday was CSS Naked Day. So when I went to my site, I was pissed that my site was jacked up. My first thought was that my site was hacked. The styling was gone but all of the content was there. Which didn’t make sense why a hacker would do that. That I realized what happened.

That was my first CSS Naked Day that I participated in. It was pretty cool. Click on the image to see a screenshot of my site during CSS Naked Day. Also, a “thank you” goes to Aja Lupas for creating the WordPress CSS Naked Day plugin that I used.

The other day, Lifehacker had a story about building a secret knock door lock.

Basically the idea is you program in the knock you want. The lock listens to the knocks on the door. When it detects an accepted knock pattern it unlocks the door. If it doesn’t detect the accepted lock, it doesn’t unlock it.

You can read the full story by Steve Hoefer. Below is the video.

But Adidas doesn’t make shoes for the Nike+ sensor (obviously) so I have been forced to buy Nike shoes. Until now.

I just found the Runaway from SwitchEasy. It allows you to clip the Nike+ sensor to laces on top of your shoes. It is even waterproof so you can run in the rain (I always thought that was fun). And best of all, it only costs $8.99. So goodbye Nike shoes. Hello, Adidas!
