About

David FreerksenMy name is David Freerksen. I was born November 24, 1979 in Shattuck, Oklahoma and lived in Woodward, Oklahoma for the first few years of my life. When I was 8 we moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma. A year later we moved to Lancaster, Texas. We lived there for three years before moving to Waxahachie, Texas, which is where I consider my home town.

My parents, David and Suette, are still together after more than 35 years of marriage. I have an older and a younger sister. Both have already started their own families.

After graduating high school in 1998 I went to the Art Institute of Dallas where I graduated top of my class in 2000 with an Associates Degree. The technical name for it is Associates of Arts with Emphasis on Multimedia. I just call it a Multimedia degree.

I worked in the web design field for about three years during which time I taught myself Flash and Coldfusion. In January 2003 I joined the United States Marine Corps and headed off to Boot Camp at MCRD San Diego, Camp Pendleton, California.

After Boot Camp, I moved to another part of Camp Pendleton for SOI (School of Infantry) where I learned basic infantry kills as well as my primary job of Infantry Mortarman.

After SOI, I was sent to Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii where I was assigned to 2nd Bn, 3rd Mar Reg, Weapons Company 81’s Plt.

In early mid 2004 I was deployed to Okinawa, Japan. We were there for a month before being re-assigned to the 31st MEU (Marine Expeditionary Force) which put us on ship for 3-4 months at a time in support of OEF and OIF. If the military needed us in Iraq or Afghanistan, we would be the first troops to be sent in. We were not sent in though. Instead, we traveled around to Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and South Korea for training.

After we returned to Hawaii, we soon found out were would start our build-up to go to Afghanistan.

In early to mid 2005 we were sent to Afghanistan. There are already three books that I know of that have been published about events that have happened while we were over there. So I won’t go into any of the details. After a little over 10 months over there we returned to Hawaii.

After four months we found out we would be going to Iraq. This time I wouldn’t go. I didn’t have enough time left on my active duty contract to be there the whole time. I had to choose between getting out of the Marine Corps on time or extending my contract and going to Iraq. I chose to get out of the Marine Corps.

After I got off active duty I went back to Texas for about a year. During this time I worked at a company named ClickMotive. That was my favorite company in Texas that I have even had to pleasure of working for.

In January 2008 I moved to Sacramento, California. When I first came California I started at a company named Sanative where I did software development using Adobe Flex. I was there for about 9 months and then moved on to Torus Marketing where I currently work. I don’t really have a specific job at Torus per se. I do everything from Flex development to Javascript development using jQuery to debugging server issues. It’s pretty stressful there. I go home most days just worn out. But I’m happy I am there. It’s a great company.

I currently live in Roseville, California with my dog, Jackson. I like working out, playing pool, surfing the net, running, and driving my car.

This picture above was taken in 2005 before I was deployed to Afghanistan. I found an old pair of glasses from Boot Camp
and my friends and I decided to take pictures with them on. It’s my “scared recruit” look. Everyone loves that picture.
